With close to two decades working in the Australian outdoor music festival scene, Mat has applied his environmental science qualifications to the creative industries sector to develop an Environmental, Health and Safety Management Manual (EHSMM) that continuously improves performance across a range of important measures at North Byron Parklands (home to Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival Byron). The EHSMM provides the overarching framework for operating events at the venue in a safe and environmentally responsible manner by putting in place “Standards” across a range of important environmental and safety aspects. These Standards document an in-depth suite of event management requirements and controls to mitigate potential impacts and include sophisticated auditing and monitoring functions. Mat’s work in this area not only improves overall event performance, it significantly reduces corporate and personal liability by providing a high level of due diligence.
